This weekend I finally spent some time playing Far Cry 5. Since last weekend was more about family and since I’ve been out of town all week, I really didn’t have the time to properly enjoy the game. The one thing that I just can’t seem to stop doing in the game is fishing. It’s fun and it provides me with some easy cash. Actually, I went a little crazy at the start of the game and killed just about every animal I could find. It took a minute for me to realize that I shouldn’t use any explosives when I went hunting. That didn’t help me make any profit at all.
Now as I write this I’m still in the first area of the game. I haven’t yet gotten the chance to face off against John Seed. This doesn’t mean I’m not trying, I just get so distracted with the fishing. The game does have so many different things that could take up all your time. From the hunting to the outposts. These are all ways to really get lost in this game. Yet fishing really has been the one thing that I just enjoy.
Now during my time I did just wonder around the country side. I stumbled across a strange haunted house that was also a Prepper location. The fact that I could walk down the road and either be attacked by a:
- Cougar
- Pedi
- Wolverine
- Bear
- Citizen running me over
- Another Wolverine
I’ve been killed by plenty of different things during my time in Hope County. So instead of throwing my controller at the wall I take up that fun hobby – fishing. See the theme that I’m laying out in front of you. In Watchdogs 2 I would just walk around and hijack cars with my phone and call the cops on random strangers. So far Ubisoft has given me plenty of things to do with the games that I have actually had the time to play (sorry, new AC: Origins). The list I put above shows some of the in-game opponents that have killed me. I hate the Wolverine in this game so much; I’d rather just face off against a group of Black Bears then one of those hateful guys. They’re just so damn fast that if I’m distracted by the eagles swooping down on me that it’s one hit and I’m done. Then I go back to that whole fishing activity to relax me. Again, see how this circle of frustration to relaxation and so on keeps happening. I did throw my controller at the wall, once… I was having some issues with my internet and it kicked me out of the final mission to save Deputy Hudson about five times. No fishing could have stopped me from throwing my controller.
Since I started playing the Far Cry series with the third game I felt like it was incomplete. After playing through the series, I finally feel like Far Cry 5 is the game that brings all those elements we love in the series together. Even though I have yet to get half way through this game, I have really enjoyed it more than any other in the series. I had actually started writing this article before I finished off John Seed. So my advice to you is to just “Say Yes”. I’m on to the next part of the game; I just don’t know where that path will lead me.
The Weekend Warrior was a writing experiment turned original content for this site. I just discuss the games that I played during my free time in any given weekend.
