TiCGN Box Office Recap: King Arthur Can’t Stop the Guardians

This weekend two movies where released nationwide to thousands of theaters. Neither of those two movies where able to topple Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Snatched and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword both barley made $20 million in this opening weekend. Snatched follows the story of Amy Schumer and her mother played by Goldie Hawn on a vacation in South America. Things take a turn for the worse when they get kidnapped. The second movie is King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, As you can tell from the title Charlie Hunnam plays the title character who pulls the sword from the stone becoming essentially the King.

Fans still wanted to see what happened to those Guardians of the Galaxy more then any thing else. The movie made a whopping $63 million this weekend domestically. That brings the domestic total to an estimated $246 million dollars. Now along with the foreign take the movie is sitting at $630 million world wide. Guardians could make it to $1 billion this summer if it keep movies like Alien: Covenant at bay. Speaking of that movie it was released in 19 foreign markets this week. So far it has grossed $42 million and is opening this coming weekend.

Weekend Top Five

5. Boss Baby $4.6 million

4. The Fate of the Furious $5 million

3. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword $14.7 million

2. Snatched $17.5 million

1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 $63 million

Next weekend Alien: Covenant, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4, and Everything, Everything will be releasing domestically. I doubt two of those movies will make a huge drop in the bucket, except for Alien: Covenant. I feel like that movie will do fairly well in this day and age. The comedy Baywatch with Dwayne Johnson and another Pirates movie will be rounding out the last few weekends of May.
