Halloween has a ton of under appreciated movies. One of those is the ABC movie, The Midnight Hour, a movie that was released on telivision days after Halloween in 1985. The movie features a towns curse that has been broken, unleashing with it the hounds of Hell.
Well, they are not really hounds of Hell. The town was cursed 300 years prior by a witch. Think Hocus Pocus without the Disney attitude. The movie actually looks like they stole plenty of costumes from the Thriller video. Five teens make come to the local cemetery with some stolen materials. The witches great-great-great granddaughter speaks the words from an evil scroll that causes the undead to come back and attack the town.
Now during the time you are watching this you may realize one man is extremely familiar. LeVar Burton plays a role as one of the five teens who started this whole thing. The movie actually has a pretty awful ending. After the events are corrected, the main character just drives off. Yet the guy’s friends were all just turned into some evil creatures bent on dancing the night away. You may find that a little strange, that’s why I’m happy to include the full movie at the bottom of this article. One of the best things about this movie is the music. From Creedence Clearwater Revival, Three Dog Night, Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, and more. These songs keep the flow of the movie going even when just about everything seems so goofy. I could see this movie eventually being remade at some point in the future.
