This year’s Gamescon event has brought us a great gift: new gameplay footage for The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. If you haven’t already heard, the remake is coming out for the Nintendo Switch on September 20th this year. We’ve talked about our excitement for the remake before but this video goes more in-depth into the game.
First, we get to see Link exploring the island and then going up against a mini-boss. Old fans of Link’s Awakening may recognize the Lanmola, an enemy who resembles the Moldorm but is rarer and tougher. The trailer shows Link fighting one while struggling to escape a quicksand pit. While the boss battle looks fun and challenging, I couldn’t help but think how cute Link looked in this art style — even while fighting for his life.
Another fun tidbit that the trailer reveals is that familiar faces from other Legend of Zelda titles are returning in the Link’s Awakening remake. An owl that resembles Kaepora Gaebora makes an appearance, and we see an area called Dampé’s Hut in a call-back to Ocarina of Time. The Nintendo representatives also mention that there are characters from the Mario franchise that make an appearance. Old-school fans may remember the Goomba showing up in the original Link’s Awakening.
The new Link’s Awakening video also reveals that the original soundtrack has been updated. While updated for modern sound systems, it still retains its original nostalgia. It sounds pleasing to the ear and gives the classic Zelda adventure feeling, especially when chests are opened or puzzles solved.
Overall, the remake looks both fun and well-made. Are you looking forward to The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening? I know I am. Let us know why or why not in the comments.
