Even with all of the competition this weekend, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was still the number one film at the domestic box office. Five different movies opened this weekend including Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle but they weren’t enough to stop the power of the Force.
The Greatest Showman, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Pitch Perfect 3, Downsizing, and Father Figures all opened in the top ten. Some movies did far better then others like Downsizing or Father Figures. The Last Jedi is quickly making its way to $800 million. The movie may have dropped in gross income this weekend due to the competition yet the worldwide total will receive a nice boost when the movie is released in China. That will be in early January so expect me to talk about this Star Wars movie until February of 2018. Downsizing and Father Figures both opened with a dismal amount. The two movies just couldn’t compete with the other movies. Downsizing grossed $4.6 million while Father Figures opened with $3.2 million. This is just another show of the disappointing year 2017 has been for some stars like Matt Damon.
Weekend Top Five
5. Ferdinand $7 million
4. The Greatest Showman $8.6 million
3. Pitch Perfect 3 $20 million
2. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle $34 million
1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi $68 million
There is only one movie scheduled for a large release next weekend. All the Money in the World is coming out; this is the movie that dropped Kevin Spacey right before the movie was to be released. We should have a good chance at seeing another movie in the top spot. By that time Star Wars: The Last Jedi should be well over $800 million. What was the movie you loved the most in 2017?
