The Future of Star Wars and EA

EA has plans for the future of the Star Wars gaming universe. With multiple games in the pipeline from various studios it looks like gamers will be set for a while. Some of the Star Wars games that are out now such as Battlefront will get continued support. Today during EA Play a basic schedule was announced for the future plans of Star Wars and EA.

Starting with the rest of 2016 players will continue to get new DLC for Battlefront. With the Bespin pack coming out this summer and two more before the end of the year it will be enough content to keep all the players happy. The mobile game Galaxy of Heroes will also be getting new updates that include new characters for players to collect and fight with. With no news of a KOTOR 3 in the horizon we have to enjoy the 5th anniversary of The Old Republic, BioWare is promising more content for this PC game. Finally DICE and Criterion are working together on exclusive Battlefront VR mission for the Playstation VR that will be released this year.

At this years EA Play the games coming out past 2016 are not really huge on details at the moment. The next installment of Battlefront is being handled by Motive Studios out of Montreal. The studio is new and excited to be working on a Star Wars game as stated here: “While we’re not ready to get into specifics right now, we have started development of this game by listening to all of the feedback we received, while also innovating in new areas I think you’re all going to be excited about.” Visceral is working a new action adventure game that is apparently blowing the minds of the people making it. Don’t expect that game until the year 2018. Respawn the makers of Titanfall are working on a third person game that hasn’t been done before in any past Star Wars game. It will follow a different timeline that no one has really explored.

I know that what we have right now is just a small amount of details on the future of Star Wars gaming. EA won’t leave us hanging in the dark for long though.
