Ryan Barnard was director of The Division before leaving Ubisoft to join IO Interactive, the Square Enix subsidiary based in Denmark known for titles such as Hitman and Kane & Lynch.
Square Enix announced that Barnard is now the studio’s gameplay director, a recently created role that manages three of IO’s core teams: gameplay, online, and world.
“Ryan’s contributions to game design over the years show he’s the ideal person to spearhead the coming efforts,” Square Enix told MCV. “We are very happy to add his talent to the pool of great people working at IO.”
Barnard has a decorated career in games development. Before joining Ubisoft’s Swedish satellite, Massive Entertainment, Ryan worked on Ever Quest II at Sony Online Entertainment (now called Daybreak), Crytek, and Warhammer Online developer, EA Mythic.
