Super Mario Maker 2 packs a ton of new goodies and a story mode too

Nintendo hosted a Direct video earlier this week that was entirely dedicated to the upcoming Super Mario Maker 2 and it looks like a ton of requested features along with some all new goodies are waiting for you and your Switch console. You can watch the Direct for yourself below:

Unlike its predecessor, Super Mario Maker 2 will feature co-op play. Two players can build levels together on the same screen. Even better, up to four players can blaze through over 100 story levels designed by Nintendo developers. Here’s a tip – don’t dawdle. This mode will be a race to see which player can work their way through the fiendishly designed levels first.

Other new features include:

  • The ability to add slopes to your level
  • An all new level theme based on Super Mario 3D World with unique features
  • On/Off switches to power things like transport blocks or conveyor belts
  • The angry sun seen in Super Mario Bros. 3
  • The ability to customize scrolling in your levels
  • A laval proof Dry Bones shell
  • Banzai Bills with the ability to track the player
  • The ability to add water or lava to your levels and adjust how quickly they fill the screen
  • Sub areas with vertical scrolling
  • Nighttime effects which impact your levels
  • Floating snake blocks and the ability to plot their trajectory
  • Super Mario Maker 2 will be released on June 28th with an MSRP of $59.99 USD. You can get the game bundled with a 12-month subscription to Nintendo Switch Online for $10 more. If you are already a subscriber then the additional 12 months will be tacked on to your existing membership. Finally, Nintendo is offering current subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online two games from the eShop for $99.99 USD. You could buy the digital versions of Super Mario Maker 2 and say Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and save $20 at the same time.
