Super Mario Maker 2 and Nintendo Switch Dominate June NPD’s

NPD’s for the United States has officially been revealed today, showing off the best selling hardware, software and of course the latest sales trends in gaming. As always all of this information is via NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, as we appreciate the work him and the NPD group do. Let’s get right into it.

Hardware

Nintendo continues its dominance, as the Nintendo Switch continues to be the best selling hardware in the United States. Overall hardware, software, accessories and game cards accounted for $959 million. Which is 13% lower then last year, spending across all categories has declined compared to last year. In terms of year to date across all categories, the industry has declined by 4% when compared to 2018, as it currently sits at $5.6 billion. While hardware numbers have dropped 33% when compared to June 2018. With a year to date hardware spending declining by 20%, the Nintendo Switch is the only console showing year on year growth as of right now.

Software

Super Mario Maker 2 topped the charts as the best selling game of June 2019. Shattering previous launch month numbers of both 2015’s Super Mario Maker and 2016’s Super Mario Maker 3DS. Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled and Mortal Kombat 11 are still holding strong in the number 2 and number 3 spot respectively. With Grand Theft Auto V and Minecraft rounding out the top 5 best software sellers.

In terms of best selling games of 2019 so far Mortal Kombat 11 continues to hold strong in the number 1 spot, with both The Division 2 and Anthem sneaking further up the list.

As always here is your break down of the best selling games on each of the major platforms.

Xbox One

PlayStation 4

Nintendo Switch

Summary

With all this information, it is safe to say that Nintendo and the Nintendo Switch are on a massive roll. With a cheaper model and Pokemon, Luigi’s Mansion and more coming this holiday. I think we are only seeing the beginning of what is going to be one hell of a year for Nintendo.
