For fans who binge watched the first season of Stranger Things way back on July 15th 2016, it has been an incredibly long wait. The second season of the hit Netflix show was announced almost immediately with a list of episode titles already in the bag too. That announcement noted that we’d be left Stranger Things-less for over a year, with the new season hitting around Halloween 2017. The wait for the new season may go on a little longer but at least we are finally getting new teasers.

Although it doesn’t give anything away it hints at a monster coming from the sky this time round. That’s something the incredible new poster confirms. It shows our four Hawkins heroes (no Eleven sadly), facing off with a mysterious monster approaching through a lightning storm. Check it out below:

As this poster shows, and as expected, the second season of Stranger Things will be leaning heavily into nostalgia once more, riffing on the work of Stephen King in particular. The comparisons to Stand By Me are particularly evident.
Also released has been a timeline of events for Stranger Things:
1953, Date Unknown – MK Ultra comes to Hawkins
1979 – Police Chief Jim Hopper returns to Hawkins
1983, November 6 – The Vanishing of Will Byers
1983, November 8 – The Vanishing of Barbara Holland
2016, July 15 – Part 1
2017, October 27 – Part 2
What’s most interesting to note about this timeline is the fact that Jim Hopper returned in 1979. Why is that significant you may ask? Well the thing is, it shouldn’t be. In fact, when comparing it to the other much more shifty and supernatural events on the timeline, it stands out like a sore thumb. Unless of course Sheriff Hopper’s story intertwines with the events in Hawkins. All we know about the officer’s backstory is he had a child whose experimental cancer treatment failed. Could that potentially link into MK Ultra and the experiments on children such as Eleven? It’s all speculation at the moment, but it sure seems odd to add such a mundane event to such an incredible list.
I guess we’ll have to wait just a little longer to find out.
The second season of Stranger Things drops on Netflix on October 27th 2017. This plays into the fact the events of this season take place around Halloween 1984.
