Solo Takes a Plunge in Sales This Weekend

This was a tough weekend for newly released movies. It didn’t help that Solo had a drop of 66% to gross only an estimated $29 million. The movie is not doing so well in the foreign market at the moment. Solo has only made an estimated $264 million world wide. This is just like I said last weekend; viewers don’t want a Star Wars movie this close to the last one being released. Deadpool 2 had a similar showing but that is an R rated movie.

Three movies came out this weekend. Only one of those movies made over $10 million at the box office. Adrift grossed $11.5 million while Upgrade made a surprising $4.4 million. Sadly, the Johnny Knoxville movie Action Point only grossed $2.3 million this weekend. It may be time for the Jackass family to hang up those stunts. In the world of Marvel movies, Deadpool 2 is now close to $600 million world wide while Avengers: Infinity War is very close to hitting $2 billion. It may need a few more weekends before it can get there. Now I don’t see Solo, Deadpool 2, or Avengers gaining much ground in the next few weeks. The Summer movie season is in full effect.

Weekend Top Five

5. Book Club $6.8 million

4. Avengers: Infinity War $10.3 million

3. Adrift $11.5 million

2. Deadpool 2 $23 million

1. Solo $29 million

Starting next weekend fans will be getting the horror movie Hereditary, Hotel Artemis, and Oceans 8. Being a huge fan of the Oceans series I hope to see this all female cast do well. During the Summer horror movies have seemingly taken over as some of the top movies. By June 22nd fans will have Incredibles 2 and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom to look forward to seeing. Both of these movies will do incredibly well all over the world.
