In the era of social media breaking news can drop at a moments notice, bringing reports and information to us at a moments notice. No news today could be more shocking then what was announced by the official PlayStation Twitter account this afternoon. Shawn Layden will be leaving his role as Sony’s Worldwide Studios Chairman in which he oversaw all of PlayStations first-party studios. Layden began working with Sony all the way back in 1987 and has long been a fan favorite executive of the PlayStation brand. This comes as a big blow, as Reggie Fils-Aime announced his retirement from Nintendo earlier this year. There was no better industry moment than last year when Reggie, Shawn, and Phil Spencer took the stage at the 2018 Game Awards together. We wish Shawn the best in his future endeavors and appreciate the passion and hard work he brought to the PlayStation brand.
It is with great emotion that we announce that Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will be departing SIE. His visionary leadership will be greatly missed. We wish him success in future endeavors and are deeply grateful for his years of service. Thanks for everything, Shawn!
