Last week on Tuesday we saw the release of much anticipated Microsoft exclusive Sea of Thieves, developed by Rare. While there has been a wide range of views on the quality and quantity of content in the game, it did not stop it from hitting some good numbers. As released today by Eurogamer, even with it being playable for $10 on Game Pass, Sea of Thieves still managed to take first place in the UK charts, beating out tough contenders in A Way Out and Ni No Kuni II for the top of the chart
The top 10 games in the UK this week were:
- Sea of Thieves
- A Way Out
- Ni No Kuni II
- Assassins Creed Rogue Remastered
- Fifa 18
- Burnout Paradise Remastered
- Grand Theft Auto 5
- EA Sports UFC 3
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Super Mario Orange
It’s important to note, this is just physical copies sold, as Game Pass downloads or digital sales are not counted.
Sea of Thieves also seems to be doing well in the digital market as Aaron Greenberg from Xbox tweeted out this image stating that Sea of Thieves was #1 on the digital store.
It also worth noting that as per Rare’s Craig Duncan and Joe Neate, Sea of Thieves reached a whopping 1 million unique players in almost 48 hours, with at peak times with as many as 5,000 logins every 5 minutes. Those are some impressive, crazy numbers!
With all the success the game is seeing it gives hope for those that are wishing for more content. From the looks of things, Microsoft has a successful new IP on their hands if they care and nurture it with the community in mind.
