Little is known about Infinity Ward’s 2016 iteration of Call of Duty, but speculations suggest some interesting details for the upcoming game.
We’ve seen backwards compatibility being used as a pre-order bonus incentive on Xbox One. Perhaps Call of Duty 4 and/or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 could be used as pre-order bonus content for this year’s iteration.
Games have used backwards compatibility as bonus content before such as:
Dark Souls 3:
Dark Souls
Fallout 4:
Fallout 3
Quantum Break:
Alan Wake
Rainbow Six Siege:
Rainbow Six Vegas
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition:
Gears of War
Gears of War 2
Gears of War 3
Gears of War: Judgment
Just Cause 3:
Just Cause 2
Activision has dabbled with digital copy of games as bonus content before. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gave away bonus digital full-game downloads of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops. Perhaps Activision can learn from incentivizing full-game digital downloads on current generation consoles as means to prolong support for previous Call of Duty games, especially with the addition of the original Black Ops to Xbox One backwards compatibility catalog.
