Rise of the Tomb Raider Scores 9 Nominations For D.I.C.E Awards

You may remember when Rise of the Tomb Raider was announced as a timed exclusive for Xbox One and the subsequent reactions from gamers and console warriors all over the world. Some decried the practice of securing timed exclusive games, others threatened to boycott the game or buy it used to spite Microsoft. A few extremist console warrriors even took delight in what appeared to be low initial sales numbers for the game.

I now see the title of the game – Rise of the Tomb Raider- to be somewhat prophetic. This game stood tall against even the most irrational complaints, sold over a million copies during the holiday season and most importantly, it turned out to be a great game. Now Rise of the Tomb Raider has earned another notch in its belt; it has earned nine nominations in the upcoming D.I.C.E Awards including the coveted Game of the Year. No other game has scored as many nominations for the D.I.C.E. Awards this year.

The D.I.C.E Awards are organized by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. The nominations were submitted by panels of experts from the gaming industry and the winners for each category are determined by a confidential voting procedure. The 2016 D.I.C.E. Awards will also honor Satoru Iwata, the late president and CEO of Nintendo with a lifetime achievement award and induct Metal Gear creator Keiji Inafune into the Hall of Fame.

Rise of the Tomb Raider received nominations for the following awards categories:

Game of the Year

Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction

Adventure Game of the Year

Outstanding Achievement in Animation

Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction

Outstanding Achievement in Character

Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design

Outstanding Achievement in Story

Outstanding Technical Achievement

Rise of the Tomb Raider is currently available on Xbox One and Xbox 360. A PC version will release later this month.
