In a surprise reveal at Sony’s E3 conference, Resident Evil VII was revealed. The game seems to both return to the series’s roots as well as offering a new twist. The gameplay shown was in VR and seemed much more reminiscent of recent horror games like PT than the traditional Resident Evil games. However, it was revealed that PlayStation would be getting exclusive VR content so perhaps this footage is only an indicator of those levels.
Resident Evil VII will take place in a derelict plantation mansion in rural America, a setting that’s much more like the original game’s setting instead of the globe trotting adventures of recent Resident Evil games. This should please hardcore fans of the series who weren’t pleased with the direction Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 went in.
Little has been revealed about the game as of now. Capcom has confirmed that the game will take place after the events of Resident Evil 6, but not much of the story is known besides that. So we have no clues on whether the protagonist will be a new character or a returning character from the series such as Jill Valentine or Leon Kennedy. Nor do we know if the game will exclusively be in first person like the trailer was. Hopefully we will find out in the coming days as Capcom will be sure to go in-depth about the game.
Resident Evil VII is set to release on January 24 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. The VR features will be exclusively on PlayStation 4.
