The rumors were true this time. The previously leaked release date for Control has been confirmed by the game’s developer, Remedy Entertainment. The game will indeed launch on August 27th for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. The release date was mistakenly leaked yesterday on the Xbox digital games store.
This will be the first time a game developed by Remedy Entertainment will appear on a PlayStation console since Max Payne 2 for the PS2. The company has spent a considerable amount of time making console exclusive games for Xbox platforms such as Alan Wake and Quantum Break. Control was officially announced last year on Sony’s stage during their E3 2018 press conference.
Control differs from a typical Remedy game in other ways. For example, the game is considerably less linear than earlier titles from the studio. There is even a Metroidvania aspect to the game with areas that can only be accessed later when your character has acquired new powers.
