If you just can’t seem to update that Apple device to the new iOS 11.2.2 and happen to love Pokemon Go, then you have a problem. Niantic has announced that they will no longer be supporting Apple devices that don’t work with the new update.
As the developer puts it, those older devices are just not powerful enough to play this game. This is actually what was said on the Pokemon Go blog:
This change is a result of improvements to Pokémon GO that push the application beyond the capabilities of the operating systems on such devices. This change will take effect on 02/28/2018. After that date, Trainers using affected devices may no longer be able to access their Pokémon GO accounts from that device, or use their PokéCoins or other items in their Bags.
Players have a little bit of time to find another device to play on. The affected devices include iPhone 5, 5c, iPad( 3rd and 4th generation), iPad mini( 1st generation), and iPad 2. If your device is not listed, just take a deep breath and relax. Hopefully everyone had a great time during the Holiday event. I had the chance to catch a few while I was sick.
