Good, fantastic, wonderful news! Pacific Rim 2 is now officially moving forward according to TheWrap with Steven S. DeKnight taking the director’s chair. Steven S. DeKnight is well known for his recent directorial work on Netflix’s Daredevil, however he turned down the opportunity to lead season 2 for unstated reasons. The sequel has been on ice for a while now, originally titled Pacific Rim: Malestrom, and it comes as somewhat of a surprise to hear of it’s revival. Guillermo del Toro reacted to the news positively this morning and he is also confirmed to still be involved with the project going forward (if only in a producing capacity).
Met w DeKnight and we are all so happy with our choice to take Pac Rim 2to where we know it can go!!

Pacific Rim came out in 2013 to reasonable critical review but it failed to sweep the box office. Its lack of profit is seen as one of the major reasons for a rift between Legendary Studios and Universal.
There is as yet no word on budget, release date, plot or cast but these will surely come in time now that the movie has been green lit. What do you think of the news? Are you excited to see a new take on the Pacific Rim franchise? Let us know in the comments below!
