On a quintessential day with the rain pouring down from the grey skies, the Manchester Film Festival injected some much needed cheer into the morning. Today the Festival organizers screened a trailer for the press of what is to come once it all gets underway on March 1st. A mix of local and international talent means this is sure to be an exciting event. The trailer was followed by the official reveal of the movies that will be screened at the Festival.
This is only the fourth year of the Festival (known as MANIFF) and yet it has already forged a reputation as a great event which attracts some of the biggest names in the industry. Some of the massive global stars that will be featured this year are Jodie Foster, Sean Penn and Shia LaBeouf. There is also the last on-screen appearance of acting royalty, Sir John Hurt.

MANIFF is sure not to forget its roots though and it maintains a strong link with the city of Manchester itself, screening the work of new and upcoming talent from the area.
The Festival will be running from March 1st to March 4th at the Odeon Great Northern in the centre of Manchester and over 100 films, including World and UK premieres, will be screened. There is also a special preview taking place on February 26th at HOME Manchester. This year’s Opening Night Film (March 1st) is Painted Woman, a female led Western, whilst the Closing Night Film (March 4th) is hard-hitting arthouse Nona featuring Kate Bosworth.

The festival is not just about the movies being shown though as organizers are currently finalizing plans for music as well as film workshops taking place during the weekend in the Hub space of the Odeon. There will be a VR section set up also and the full details can be found on the website in the coming weeks.
