The April 2016 NPD numbers were revealed and it’s rather negative overall in both Retail game sales and Hardware Sales. In terms of Hardware, the PS4 managed to eke out a win during April, however total hardware revenue were down 23% during the time, most likely affected by the rumors of an updated PlayStation 4 coming this year, and a possible Xbox refresh coming in 2017.
Retail game sales dropped 21% year on year, to just $203 Million in the US.
Dark Souls 3 managed to outperform Ratchet and Clank, both of which launched during the month. Dark Souls 3 became the best selling in the franchise after breaking the record set by Dark Souls 2. Dark Souls 3 also topped Bloodborne in sales, the PS4 exclusive which launched in 2015. Quantum Break debut at number 7 during the month of April, as it launched on April 5th. Star Fox Zero, the Wii U Exclusive managed to grab the 10th position, after its debut during the month of April.
