Nintendo trying to give us a new way to play games…again
The Nintendo shenanigans continue. Always trying to give us something we don’t know we want, but I almost admire the boldness. In an interview with The Asahi Shimbun, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima said:
The NX is neither the successor to the Wii U nor to the 3DS. It’s a new way of playing games, which I think will have a larger impact than the Wii U, but I don’t feel it’s a pure replacement for the Wii U.
From that statement it looks like Nintendo is aiming to create another “third pillar”. The last time they tried this was with the Nintendo DS. If you recall the DS was supposed to be the “Third pillar” to the Wii and the Game Boy Advance. However, what the Nintendo DS did do was make the Game Boy Advance obsolete and completely replace it. For Kimishima to say this is a little odd considering the Wii U is all but dead. The Nintendo NX is clearly taking the Wii U’s spot. Why waste any more time with it? Pokémon Go launching field test in the US
Time to become Pokémon trainers in real life. Field testing is going to start in the US and Niantic Lab’s is taking pre-registration right now on their website. Be warned though; just because you sign up doesn’t mean you get to be part of the test. Check out Javon Major‘s article right here on TiCGN for more details.
Nintendo seems to be expanding its business portfolio
If you remember, a few years back Nintendo was talking about a device they were trying to make that was more or less a clock that measures your sleep patterns. That may have not been released, but it turns out that might not be the end of them getting into the health and medical field. That’s not the only new businesses they have been looking to get into however. They recently released an amendment to the articles incorporation. Some of the more interesting things listed they added to “business to engage in” are the following:
- Development, manufacturing and sale of medical devices and health devices
- Planning and production of sports, films and other cultural events
- Manufacturing and sale of entertainment equipment, sporting equipment, sound equipment and vehicle
Those were the interesting ones to me as far as other avenues to take some of there IP. The whole thing can be read here.
