Nintendo May Be Working On An SNES Mini Console

Nintendo may release an SNES Mini console in 2017 according to a report on Eurogamer. This mini console would be similar to last year’s NES Classic Edition with a number of preloaded games from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System along with an updated iteration of the SNES controller.

Nintendo – as usual – refused to confirm or deny the rumor. “”We have nothing to announce on this topic,” said Nintendo in a response to an inquiry from Business Insider.

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System was Nintendo’s 16-bit console that launched in 1991 for the United States and a year earlier in Japan. This system was part of one of the most intense console wars the industry has ever seen. The SNES enjoyed an epic lineup of games from Nintendo and third parties alike. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System was known to be an RPG haven though it is unclear if titles such as Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy III/VI, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger or Lagoon would make it to the tiny console. You can be sure that Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Super Metroid, Super Castlevania IV and Contra III: The Alien Wars would make the cut. Alas, Mario Paint is unlikely to show up because that game required a mouse controller.

We can only hope that Nintendo can keep up with consumer demand this time. If I camp outside of Best Buy now then I might be able to score an SNES Classic for myself.

Maybe.

What SNES games would you like to see on this system? Let us know in the comments section or on Twitter.
