Nintendo Labo Preorders Are Doing Very Well On Amazon

Nintendo surprised the world yesterday by announcing the Labo – a series of devices you build from cardboard that can interact with video games played on your Nintendo Switch. Whether you believe the product is a great tool for exercising the imagination or a huge rip-off, one thing is certain. Labo is going to sell very, very well. Don’t believe me? Let’s have a look at Amazon’s Best Sellers list for video games. As of this writing, the two Labo kits announced yesterday hold the third and fourth top spots.

Not surprisingly, the $70 Variety Pack is the better selling of the two. That one includes all the parts you need to make the fishing reel, the motorbike handlebars, two RC “cars” the doll house and the piano. The more expensive robot pack is no slouch in terms of sales though. This one utilizes cords and pulleys to simulate a giant robot who can transform and smash structures.

I would not be shocked if Labo ends up as another money-printing machine for Nintendo and there is more to come. Other cardboard constructs shown but not yet available include a working camera and a pump-action rifle.

Just to be clear – I am not bashing anybody who is getting Labo. My pre-order is in there too. I just haven’t figured out yet if I am going to paint my robot suit to look like Optimus Prime or Voltron.
