It is no secret that Metroid fans have felt largely neglected over the last several years. They hated the direction the series took with Metroid: Other M and the most recent title in the franchise, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, wasn’t a bad game at all but it was a multiplayer shooter and not a new adventure for the beloved Samus Aran character. After these missteps it may finally be time to rejoice as two proper Metroid games have been announced for both the Switch and the 3DS.
The first game is Metroid Prime 4. There were not many details available for this game other than the fact it will not be developed by Retro Studios. The reveal trailer was simply a space vista with interstellar gases forming the Screw Attack symbol before being imposed by the number four.
The new 3DS title is Metroid: Samus Returns and it looks like a traditional entry in the series with gameplay mostly resembling Super Metroid. Samus sports some new moves like a shield. Given the relatively unblemished appearance of her armor, this game may be placed before the events of the Game Boy Advance entry, Metroid: Fusion.
It’s great that the 3DS will get a core entry in the series. game will be released on September 15th, 2017 while Metroid Prime 4 is at least two or three years away. Check out the trailer for the 3DS game below:
