Nintendo Announces SNES Classic With A Surprise

Nintendo delighted the world last year when it announced the NES Classic, a tiny replica of the beloved Nintendo Entertainment System packed with a bunch of fondly remembered games. Even before the diminutive box released, fans began to wonder about a possible SNES Classic.

Today we saw Nintendo answer the call by officially announcing the SNES Classic via Twitter:

The SNES Classic will include a total of 21 games including a game that has never been officially released before – the enigmatic Star Fox 2. This title was developed for the SNES but never released for a number of reasons.

The rest of the games are a diverse offering of RPGs, platformers and stand-alone treasures. Here is the full list:

Contra III: The Alien Wars™
Donkey Kong Country™
Final Fantasy III
Kirby™ Super Star
Kirby’s Dream Course™
The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past™
Mega Man® X
Secret of Mana
Star Fox™
Star Fox™ 2
Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Castlevania IV™
Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts®
Super Mario Kart™
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars™
Super Mario World™
Super Metroid™
Super Punch-Out!! ™
Yoshi’s Island™

The SNES Classic will be released on September 29th for $79.99. For that you get the console, an HDMI cable, a USB charge cable and two wired SNES Classic controllers to take on those multiplayer titles.

Nintendo says that the SNES Classic will enjoy better availability than its predecessor but only through 2017. If you want one you better get there early.

Will you buy an SNES Classic? Maybe we’ll see each other while waiting in line.
