Night Trap: 25th Anniversary Edition Is Coming To Nintendo Switch

Well, that is certainly ironic. It seems that Night Trap: 25th Anniversary will be available for the Nintendo Switch this summer in both digital and physical editions. The announcement was made by Limited Run Games via their official Twitter account:

You can watch the official announcement trailer here:

This is a particularly interesting announcement because Night Trap was one of the games targeted by the United States Congress for supposedly inappropriate content. Former Nintendo of America Chairman, Howard Lincoln, actually claimed that Night Trap would never be available on any Nintendo console. “And let me say that for the record, I want to state that Night Trap will never appear on a Nintendo system,” he declared.

Looking back, the content in Night Trap is actually not very violent at all by modern standards but this game along with other titles like Mortal Kombat led the way for ESRB ratings on video games.

The game is a Full Motion Video title – dubbed as an “interactive movie” at the time. You play as a special agent who watches feeds from several video cameras to – I swear I am not joking – watch a bunch of girls during their slumber party at a house known for mysterious disappearances. It seems there are some vampire-ish beings known as Augers stalking the girls for their blood. You can use the cameras to pick up story points and attempt to activate traps and save the girls from their gruesome fates.

In all honesty, the game is not that great in my opinion but it enjoyed a bout of notoriety because of the media coverage. If you are a fan of schlock horror like I am, you might want to check this one out. It’s already available for the PS4 and PC with no word on when the Xbox One version will come.
