Square Enix has revealed NieR: Automata is no longer a PlayStation 4 exclusive and will be releasing on PC (Steam) next year. The date has yet to be revealed for the release of the game on either platform, but the PC version has the same release window as the PlayStation 4 version, which is early 2017. The video made no indication on whether the PC version of NieR: Automata will release the day and date with the PlayStation 4 version. It’s safe to assume it will, but that is still yet to be confirmed.
NieR: Automata is the sequel to cult favorite, NieR, which was originally released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in April of 2010 to mostly mixed reviews. The sequel will be taking place in the same post-apocalyptic setting and occurs after an unknown time after the original. Some characters from the original have been confirmed to appear in the game, but it will not be a direct sequel. The game is being developed by Platinum Games and being published by Square Enix.
The announcement came via a video released during Gamescom with NieR: Automata Director, Yoko Taro. Since it was Yoko Taro announcing this on camera; you knew the video was going to be a little odd. Well, if it was anyone else it would be seen as odd. For him it’s to be expected. This is the same guy that once gave an interview about his game, Drakengard 3, with a sock puppet. I’m just saying. That interview was awesome simply because of the absurdity of it.
