New Atari VCS Details Revealed

Atari has renamed it’s upcoming console, previously known as the Ataribox. Now titled the Atari VCS, the retro-inspired device is designed to blur the look of an older game console with a sleek new look.

The new logo for the Atari VCS is also retro-themed:

Michael Arzt, COO of Atari Connected Devices, states that “The Atari VCS is a completely new Atari device designed for today’s living room that will include PC and online entertainment-driven features that distinguish it from these other products. Atari VCS will of course serve up lots of classic content. But it will do and play much more, and can complement other “retro-boxes” or “microconsoles” that consumers may already have in their homes.”

While the specs aren’t yet finalized, the device will use an x86 AMD processor and will be comparable to a high-end laptop, with USB 3.0 support. It’ll use a custom Linux OS, with support from Atari’s library of IP and more. Atari has stated that they are working with developers to finalize the initial slate of content that will be available for the device. There’s no price or pre-order date set yet however, a date should be announced sometime before the end of April 2018.

It’ll be interesting to see how this performs, with Atari getting back into the console space. I imagine we’ll learn more very soon.
