In an article on the Verge, Netflix announced Monday that it has plans to produce 30 new anime series along with 80 new anime original films that will release in 2018.
Some series that will be coming to Netflix are Kyoto Animation’s Violet Evergarden, BONES’ A.I.C.O. -Incarnation-, DLE Inc.’s Sword Gai: The Animation, Production I.G’s B: The Beginning, LIDEN FILMS’ Lost Song, MAPPA’s Kakegurui, Science SARU’s DEVILMAN crybaby, TMS Entertainment’s Baki,Toei Animation’s Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya just to name a few.
Netflix is going all in on bringing as much anime content as possible which is great news for fans. This is all in part of Netflix’s 8 billion dollar budget for the U.S. This these series will be 50% of its catalog that will release next year. Hopefully it will be quality series rather than quantity.
Netflix is starting to become a very serious contender in the anime market and is coming for other competitors such as Crunchyroll and Funimation who recently merged in order to fight off Netflix and Amazon Prime who have been getting big titles for their respective catalogs.
How will this turn out? Who knows but I’m always excited for more content.
