Netflix Adds 5 New Original Anime Series

During a recent event Netflix announced that it will be adding five new anime titles. Three will be created by Japanese studios. What are these titles? Well for starters one will be Yasuske, Netflix describes the series as:

“In a war-torn feudal Japan of mechs and magic, a retired ronin must take up his sword when he is charged with the task of transporting a mysterious child who dark forces want to eliminate. The story’s protagonist is based on the historical figure Yasuke, a samurai of African origin who served under Oda Nobunaga during Japan’s Warring States period in the 16th century.” LeSean Thomas better known as Lakeith Stanfield (Atlanta, Sorry to Bother You) will be the voice of the protagonist “Yasuke”. The studio behind the series will be MAPPA (Yuri On Ice, Kakegurui).

Next up we have Cagestar of the Insect Cave, which is about: “Set in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious disease “Cagaster” turns people into giant murderous insects, this manga-based series follows the struggle of a young couple to stay alive.”

The Pacific Rim franchise will also be getting an anime adaptation. According to Netflix: “the story will follow two siblings – an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister – who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents.” Another show getting an anime adaptation is Netflix’s own Altered Carbon, and it will explore new mythologies and elements in the sci fi action series; and last but not lease we have Trese. Trese is an animated series based off of the graphic novel Trese, this is “Set in a Manila where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding amongst humans, Alexandra Trese finds herself going head to head with a criminal underworld comprised of malevolent supernatural beings.”
