The NES Classic is Already Discontinued in North America

Sometime after the Nintendo Direct provided details on upcoming releases for the Switch and 3DS, Nintendo of America has announced that it will be discontinuing the NES Classic. Wait, already? Didn’t it just come out in November?

A representative of Nintendo of America had this to say about the discontinuation:

“Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.

NES Classic Edition wasn’t intended to be an ongoing, long-term product. However, due to high demand, we did add extra shipments to our original plans.”

It remains unclear as to whether or not the same fate will occur in other territories. One thing’s for sure: People sure are going to have a harder time finding an NES Classic for a reasonable price. To those still on the hunt for one, I can only bid you good luck.
