MK9 and Injustice headed to Xbox One?

Earlier today on Twitter, Ed Boon (Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios) teased at what may be very big news.

Mortal Kombat 9 and Injustice: Gods Among Us could be headed to the Xbox One through backwards compatibility, or they may actually be brought to the console natively. The interesting thing about this tweet is that it is very vague. Users have interpreted this as a promise to deliver the two titles to the Xbox One in both fashions. Of course, it’s worth remembering that this doesn’t constitute an official confirmation.

Regardless, a detail to take note of is that the tweet seems to have been swept from Mr. Boon’s Twitter profile, and a few high profile retweets have also disappeared, possibly lending credit to the idea that it really would be a port, not just backwards compatibility. This is further supported by the fact that both of the games are currently on sale digitally and to hint that a port is being made may damage sales. It would also be very advantageous to let people know that a game which is on sale will be backwards compatible, because it would encourage more people to buy it, knowing that they won’t need their Xbox 360 to play it. If it really was just a hint towards backwards compatibility, it would certainly be a little confusing.

Again, this is not a confirmation of either backwards compatibility or a new generation port, and the theory laid out in this article is just speculation. The mere potential for such a production, however, is tantalizing, to say the least.
