An interesting rumor follows the recently reported news that the Xbox One will soon receive mouse and keyboard support. An Xbox-centric website based in the Netherlands is reporting that an inside source at Microsoft claims the company is working on a high performance gaming mouse and keyboard that would work on both PCs and Xbox One consoles. Without an official announcement or a verifiable source we must consider this to be just a rumor for the time being.
It would make a lot of sense for Microsoft to produce these products. The Elite controller has proven to be very popular and eSports level gear tends to be quite profitable for the manufacturers. Microsoft is also no stranger to mouse and keyboard production. My guess is that an Elite mouse would have variable weights that could be added to or removed from the device, a number of hot keys for macro commands and the ability to store several different gaming profiles.
The concept of an Elite keyboard is fairly broad. A mechanical keyboard would be a nice option and the ability to use different colored backlights for different sections of the keyboard is common with current gaming keyboards.
Microsoft will hold an Xbox and Windows 10 event in San Francisco on Thursday which would be an ideal venue for new hardware announcements.
