Recently, an unknown Lumia branded device started popping up on GFXBenchmark sites. It’s been long rumoured that Microsoft is working on a new flagship, most likely called the Lumia 940 XL. The benchmarks made a few surprising findings. Although the benchmarks usually under report specifications, we can assume that the device will have the following specifications based on the information revealed.
RM – 1100 (Microsoft Lumia 940 XL)
The device will sport a 5.7 inch QHD (2559 x 1440) resolution display, which is a first for a Windows Phone. This will finally bring the flagship from Microsoft in line with other devices of the same category.
It will also sport a Qualcomm ARMv7 Octa-core Processor, which is nothing new in the world of flagship devices. Graphics will be handled by the Qualcomm Andreno 430 GPU, which is respectable. The benchmark did report that the 3D API will be DirectX 11, which is most likely the API they tested, but Windows 10 devices will run the DirectX 12 API from launch.
Storage and RAM were both under reported at 14Gb and 1.5Gb respectively, however we can assume that the device will have 2Gb of RAM and 16Gb Expandable Memory inside. We do hope that the device will have options for 32Gb and 64Gb available at launch. Lumia devices have always had lacklustre storage options.
Front and Back cameras have been reported as 17Mpx and 4.8Mpx, which could be assumed to be 20Mpx and 5Mpx respectively. Microsoft will also implement the Nokia Pureview technology they’re licensing from Nokia to ensure that the photo quality is industry defining.

Microsoft is expected to reveal the device during a keynote in September, which falls in line with the expected release of Windows 10 Mobile, which is currently available to Windows Insiders.
