Mike Ybarra, the Head of Platform Engineering over at Xbox tweeted that they are planning on overhauling the Xbox One reputation system. Currently the majority of players are in the ‘Green’ level meaning that they have not been reported for abusive behaviour.
The system which was introduced with Xbox One was implemented to give players a good yardstick to measure which players was repeatedly flagged for abusive behaviour by others, and who to avoid. But as Mike stated, this is being abused by “grievers” and people who mistakenly take ‘highly skilled’ as ‘abusive’.
Games such as Halo and the latest Gears of War, games with a highly competitive multiplayer aspect have seen a spike in reports of abusive behaviour as some players are just way better at sniping you with a handgun. Unfortunately Gears of War is a game where you’re pitted against highly skilled players while you’re not, and it detracts from the overall experience. There have been several calls to The Coalition to improve the matchmaking in Gears of War to allow skilled based matchmaking.
Microsoft will now actively screen these reports for actual abuse reports and will update each player’s reputation score accordingly.
