Microsoft Announces Project xCloud, Their Game Streaming Service

At the Xbox E3 2018 conference, Phil Spencer, Vice President of Gaming at Microsoft, talked about how Microsoft was working on a streaming service that would let gamers stream games to their consoles, PCs or mobile devices. Today, Microsoft announces Project xCloud, their streaming service. Using Azure Cloud infrastructure, they’re aiming to stream thousands of games to different devices.

Check out the Project xCloud announcement video:

The future of gaming is a world where you are empowered to play the games you want, with the people you want, whenever you want, wherever you are, and on any device of your choosing.

In the official press release, Kareem Choudhry, Corporate VP of Gaming Cloud at Microsoft, talked about how the developers of thousands of Xbox games will be able to support their games across Project xCloud with no additional work. Project xCloud will enter public testing sometime in 2019.

This is extremely interesting news. With PlayStation Now offering streaming to PS4s and PCs and with Google also stepping into the foray of game streaming, 2019 could end up being a streaming battleground, as different companies get their services in place while this generation of consoles winds down.
