Justice League Fails to Exceed Studio Expectations This Weekend

This was supposed to be that big weekend where the DC movies took off. Well it looks like Justice League has come in under expectations as it seems that the current formula is just not working out.

Justice League failed to gross over $100 million in its domestic opening weekend. The movie grossed $96 million bringing the worldwide total to $281 million. It seems that the foreign markets may be the only saving grace for this movie. With rumors that Ben Affleck is leaving the role of Batman, it may be a great time for WB to revise their plans on future movies. The movie Wonder Woman really took everyone by surprise, it opened at second place with $27 million. In comparison, Wonder Woman grossed more than Thor: Ragnarok. With less than a month away it seems that Disney may yet come out on top. Once the next Star Wars is released on December 15th, it’s more than likely going to outsell any other film of the year.

Weekend Top Five

5. Murder on the Orient Express $13 million

4. Daddy’s Home 2 $14 million

3. Thor: Ragnarok $21 million

2. Wonder $27 million

1. Justice League $96 million

It will be interesting to see how Justice League will do given that we are going into a Holiday break for most families. The only movie coming out in a large amount of theaters is the animated film Coco. So it seems safe to say that the super hero team up could easily continue its run as the number one movie. This weekend put Thor: Ragnarok past the $700 million mark. The movie has now brought in a total of $738 million world wide, it now sits as the ninth highest grossing movie of 2017. I’m excited to see how this movie does in the next few weeks. It isn’t that far behind Wonder Woman in the top ten list.
