IO Interactive, or IOI, are the developers behind the long-running Hitman franchise. Their most recent game, Hitman 2, may have not lit the sales charts on fire but the studio appears to be doing quite well. In a new announcement today, we learned that IO Interactive has opened a new studio titled IOI Malmö.
Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, said that “We are super excited and proud to announce IOI Malmö. We will expand IOI to join a buzzling game developer community and bring our own unique IOI culture to this amazing town.”
These new offices are already up and functioning, so any developers who are just starting or transitioning don’t have to wait for space to open up. This studio will be used to support the Hitman franchise, as well as assisting on future projects.
Hakan continued by saying “Furthermore, this will expand our muscles for creating brand-new and exciting endeavours, new universes, new franchises. In other words, IOI Malmö and Copenhagen are one family.”
“The IOI expansion in Malmö was a natural choice as there is a very strong existing video game industry. I believe it has all opportunities to become the epicentre of game development in Scandinavia.”
It’s great to see a developer expanding like this and we’d like to wish the best to IO Interactive as their family expands from Copenhagen, Denmark into Malmö, Sweden.
