It is no secret that EA’s Star War’s Battlefront II came under a lot of fire before and after release for its very microtransaction-heavy multiplayer. However, it seems that this criticism did not fall on deaf ears, as announced huge changes to how their multiplayer leveling system worked and even changing which things can be purchased with in-game currency vs real money.
Here’s all of the changes coming to Star Wars Battlefront II:
The first major change coming to the game is that star cards can no longer be earned via loot crate. Loot crates also cannot be purchased with cash anymore, they are earned through logging in daily and completing challenges. The crates now contain cosmetics, poses and emotes for the characters.
Progression is changing in how you level up. Star cards, which were often seen as a huge pay to win advantage for some players have now changed as well. Going forward Star Cards will only be earnable via gameplay and will not be purchasable. Instead, you will earn XP and level up the classes and hero’s you use the most. Once you earn enough XP you will level up and earn a skill point, which you can then use to upgrade or equip an eligible Star card that you can use with that class.
Starting in April you will be able to purchase a new wave of skins for your classes and heroes, all of which can be unlocked using in-game currency or be purchased with crystals. Crystals are the virtual currency which can be purchased directly from the store in the game.
Most importantly whatever items or star cards you have unlocked will still be open to you. All purchased items or unlocked will still be available to you no matter what. EA also hinted at going forward they would be focusing on doing more game modes and events for the players.
This is a huge step in the right direction for Star Wars Battlefront II, and its great to see EA listening to fan and player feedback. This game is definitely looking more appealing and could be worth a purchase. Are you happy with the changes? Let us know in the comments!
