The upcoming Witcher TV series from Netflix just found its big star. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Henry Cavill will play Geralt, the titular Witcher in the show. Cavill recently starred alongside Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, though he’s best known for his role as Superman in the DC Extended Universe.
Cavill is a fan of the games and recently replayed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. When IGN asked Henry Cavill if he’d be interested in playing Geralt a few months ago, he said “Absolutely. Yeah, that would be an amazing role.” He told them that he’d started reading the books by Andrej Sapkowski, saying “The books are amazing. The books are really, really good… The books I started reading, and they are well worth a read.”
The Netflix Witcher TV series is currently slated for eight episodes. Lauren Hissrich is working as showrunner for the project. Tomasz Bagiński, who directed the CGI cinematics in The Witcher games, is on the team as an Executive Producer.
