Most game developers are satisfied with releasing a new title that hits number one in the charts for a couple of weeks throughout its life-cycle. However, if your game is Grand Theft Auto V you can expect it to continue happening up to an astonishing four years after the game has been released.
These figures were revealed by the Entertainment Retailers Association’s 2017 first half report which analyses the sales of all physical media within the United Kingdom. The report shows that Grand Theft Auto V has sold a staggering 334,2800 physical copies this year making it the best selling video-game title. GTAV is joined by six other games including Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands which managed to amass an impressive 311,792 despite its relatively quiet entrance into the market. Further down the list you’ll find Horizon Zero Dawn (286,538 units), Fifa 17  (242,385 units), Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare (204,778 units), and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (190,545 units).
It’s unusual for video-games to penetrate the ERA’s first half report given that game publishers are keen on releasing their bigger titles within the second half of the year. The reason for this seems to stem from avoiding the ‘summer holiday’ competition whie maximising marketing potential in the run up to Christmas Holidays. For a full rundown of the list see below:
