Lead Developer over at Motiga, the developer behind the game Gigantic have issued a statement last night that they will be laying off a ‘significant’ amount of their staff due to ongoing financial issues. They also stated that they are in talks with partners and investors to see if they can round up enough funding to continue work on the game.
It is with deep heartache that Motiga announces the temporary layoff of a significant percentage of our studio today. Our financial situation is such that we are unable to continue supporting the entirety of the studio at this time. Though we are in active and promising discussions with a number of potential investors, the timing for those negotiations extends beyond the resources we have to maintain the staffing required to continue development on Gigantic.
The game which was supposed to launch in 2015, was delayed to this year. It seems like they have hit another setback and it’s unknown if the game will be shelved. Chris Chung stated that they will continue to support the game and its Beta’s for as long as possible, but due to the fact that they retrenched several support staff, they cannot guarantee this.
Microsoft showed the game during their E3 presentation in 2015, and was set to launch on Xbox One and PC. The game is currently in a non NDA Beta. It remains to be seen if they can garner some financial backing, as it would be quite sad to see this title go by the wayside.
