Fans of Ubisoft’s tactical shooters have more than just Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege and The Division to look forward to in the near future. In development by Ubisoft Paris, Tom Cancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands claims to offer the largest, most reactive open World title from Ubisoft yet. Tasked with weakening the drug cartels of Bolivia and their influence on corrupt governments, the game takes an “anything goes” approach, electing for an overall mission objective that can be achieved in multiple ways based on your decisions during gameplay.
For example, the reveal trailer focused on the destruction of “White Hat’s Drug Lab.” The first approach being a long range attack option where a four-man team parachutes into the area. A sniper scans the lab, spotting the white cowboy hatted boss talking on a cellphone while standing by a window. After White Hat is taken down a truck filled with cocaine attempts to make a break for it sparking the other 3 team members to give chase and run it off the road.
A second option for the same mission focuses around stealth. Instead our team approaches under the cover of darkness in a downpour. Electing to take out gang members with suppressed weaponry but capturing White Hat alive rather than taking him out. The lab is then destroyed by C4 while the team flees the area in a simple sedan with White Hat loaded into the boot.
The third option shown is a more full-on approach where the team set up an ambush. While some of the team provides fire from multiple angles another uses a drone fitted with a camera to scan the area, finally setting it by a car and blowing itself and the vehicle up. This loud approach ends with the gang members dead while the team flee the area taking the drugs with them, leaving White Hat behind, alive and to face the consequences of failing his bosses.
The choices surrounding missions also extend beyond your mode of approach as you will be able to chose the order in which you do things as missions will appear on the game map and you choose which one you want to do at any given time.
Ghost Recon: Wildlands doesn’t have a release date as of yet and looking at the previous delays of The Division it would be safe to assume this game is a couple of years away
