Recently, Henry Cavill was cast as Geralt of Rivia in the upcoming Witcher Netflix series. We’ve been waiting for the other major members of the cast to be announced and now we’ve got something to share. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Lauren Hissrich confirmed that Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra have been cast as Ciri and Yennefer respectively in the upcoming show.
More information on seeing Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra cast as Ciri and Yennefer:
Freya Allan has been in other works before such as The War of the Worlds, Into the Badlands, while Anya Chalotra has been in The ABC Murders and Wanderlust.
Speaking on the nature of strong female characters in the show, Lauren Hissrich said that “Yeah, what’s interesting is the first couple books are told from Geralt’s perspective and when I was reading them I saw that there are all these other characters who are very strong and powerful; not just the women, by the way. They can be pulled to the forefront so it doesn’t always feel like just Geralt’s journey, because the journey of one man is never going to be very interesting. It’s only going to be as interesting as the people he interacts with. That’s why these characters are rising in prominence in the series.”
The Netflix Witcher show will be based on the books that CD Projekt Red’s bestselling games are built on. The cast is definitely coming together now. With production beginning in 2019 on a season consisting of eight episodes, it’ll be interesting to see when we get our first teaser trailer.
