In a recent press release, Epic Games has shared quite a few details on their upcoming action/building game, Fortnite. This information includes plans for an Early Access Season and a physical edition for the game. They also uploaded a trailer showing off gameplay.
In this trailer, we see scavenging, crafting, combat, character classes, and lots of loot. During the day, players can explore a variety of environments to gather materials. They can then use these materials to build their base, traps, or weapons. There seem to be few rules for the base building, giving plenty of freedom for the players’ creativity. The traps add a tower defense element to the game. Enemies seem to take the path of least resistance, and players can take advantage of this to construct deadly mazes. Players can also repair and build during combat, allowing them to adjust their defenses on the fly.
Each hero has their own special abilities which gives players access to a variety of playstyles. While unique, these heroes fit into four classes that specialize in specific things. Constructors have access to the best defenses and have great crowd control. Naturally, soldiers have access to the biggest, deadliest weapons in the game. Outlanders excel at gathering and can deploy unique machines. Meanwhile, characters in the ninja class are great at getting into and out of combat. Players obtain characters through a random unlock system, so they might not get what they want right away. There are also quite a few melee and long range weapons in the game that allow players to further refine their style of play. Up to four people can team up to make the best of their unique talents.
The game will be available in paid Early Access on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on July 25, 2017. However, those who wish to get a head start can order the Fortnite Founder’s Pack. This pack gives gamers access to the game on July 21st. It also includes an exclusive weapon pack as well as “a huge value” on characters, loot, weapons, and boosts. Additionally, there will be events in the game that will require this pack to participate.
