Five Games That Would Be Amazing on the Nintendo Switch

With the upcoming release of Warframe on the Nintendo Switch and Fortnite just releasing a few weeks before that, I’ve been left to ponder: what other surprise announcements could we see for the Nintendo Switch? With this list, I plan to dive into games I think would fit the following criteria:

  • Would be great to play in handheld mode/on the go.
  • Games that could realistically run on the hardware without insane downgrading.
  • Games strictly from this generation, nothing from Xbox 360 or PS3 will be considered. (Wii U ports will be exempted from this.)

Here’s my list of games that would be amazing on the Nintendo Switch!

Cities Skylines is this generation’s frightfully more complicated Sim City. Boasting a great difficulty curve, with a wide variety of aspects that will drive anyone with OCD absolutely insane.  The game would be a fantastic time burner on the Switch. Simulation games are very easy to lose a few hours in without really realizing it. With the on the go capability of the Switch, a game like Cities Skylines would be perfect for people with long commutes or downtime on the road.

Persona 5

Persona 5 is considered JRPG royalty and is by far one of the most successful games in the franchise. Nintendo has had a working relationship with Atlus all the way back to the late 1980’s with the NES. With the vast size of Persona 5 with many players putting in 100+ hours to complete the game, can be both a blessing and a curse. It can take a long time to finish a game of this size, especially if you have kids, or share your primary console with a family member. Being able to take Persona 5 on the go would fantastic for people who feel like they just don’t have the time to invest in such a deep JRPG.  That being said, more people just need to be able to play this amazing game, and with a fanbase that loves JRPG’s, it completely makes sense for Persona 5 to come to the Switch.

Super Mario Maker

Now, while technically this game is from a previous generation console I could not bring myself to keep this off the list. Nintendo sometimes catches a lot of flack for playing it safe and sticking to the same IPs that they have always used. While there is some truth to that, it cannot be ignored that Nintendo makes some of the best spin-off games from their main franchises. Super Mario Maker was a fantastic game on a disappointing system that many people did not purchase. With all of the Wii U ports we have seen coming for the Switch it seems strange to me that this game has not been ported yet. With its fun creative maps, with community members making some of the most insane levels that I have ever seen. There’s also an easy to learn level builder that lets you pick what era of Mario you wish to create your level in.  It was a fun game that more people should definitely not have to buy a Wii U to play.

World of Tanks

One of the more noticeable gaps in the Nintendo Switch’s lineup is in the online portion of its library. While titles like Splatoon have done a fantastic job in adding online variety to Nintendo gamers, more options never hurt. With Paladins and Fortnite already finding success on the Switch, World of Tanks could be another. With tactical tank combat and a huge variety of tanks to choose from there is nothing else like it on the Switch.  Add on the fact that it is free to play, this expands the Nintendo Switch’s free-to-play library putting it on an almost level playing field with Xbox One and PS4.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy

Now, there are rumors that the Spyro Reignited Trilogy will be coming to the Nintendo Switch at a later date. However, that doesn’t change the fact that this is another game that will be released on other major platforms well before it comes to the Nintendo Switch. This is the largest struggle that Nintendo faces: getting third-party games on their system the same day as their competition. It will be an uphill battle in this regard for Nintendo, but they appear to be fully invested in making the Switch as appealing as possible with amazing first party titles and supporting third-party titles as much as possible.
