Far Cry 6 Setting Might Have Been Leaked by a Past Ubisoft Survey

The article below will contain massive spoilers for Far Cry 5, so read at your own risk.

Far Cry 5 was released around two weeks ago and has already become the second best selling Ubisoft game of all time, only being beaten out by The Division. Considering the massive success, it’s safe to assume that the future of Far Cry is definitely secure and future installments will be forthcoming, but we might already know where the future of the series is heading.

Back in 2015, Ubisoft, just a few months after Far Cry 4 launched created a survey about future settings of the franchise. Back then it was purely speculation as to where the series might go. In an article by PCGamer, which you can read here, the survey was detailed and the settings Ubisoft allowed people to choose from listed. Back then, these potential settings for a new Far Cry game didn’t stand out, but now they are much more significant.

  • A Far Cry game in remote Alaska about surviving extreme wilderness
  • A Far Cry game in a futuristic, sci-fi setting on another planet
  • A Far Cry game set in the Vietnam war during the 1960s
  • A Far Cry game set in the cocaine trafficking jungles of Peru
  • A Far Cry game where you can fight against or join vampires
  • A Far Cry game in the Spaghetti Western style set in the late 19th century Americas
  • A Far Cry game that is set during a zombie outbreak
  • Blood Dragon 2: A sequel to Blood Dragon with more Rex Power Colt
  • A Far Cry game set in a Mad Max style post-apocalyptic world
  • A Far Cry game in the present day on a Jurassic Park style island of dinosaurs
  • A Far Cry game based on the world of Shangri-La from Far Cry

Far Cry 5 has a season pass, which gives players access to three story packs, all of which taking place in different settings: Hours of Darkness takes place during the Vietnam war where you fight the Vietcong; in Lost In Mars, you play as an astronaut trying to save Earth from an Alien Invasion; and lastly Dead Living Zombies, where you fight zombies. If you take a look back at the survey, these three settings are all listed, and it’s likely Ubisoft didn’t think theses games would work as full length titles, but would be great as shorter experiences like Blood Dragon.

….but, the article is about Far Cry 6, so let’s talk about where the series could be heading next. To do that, we need to chat about the ending of Far Cry 5, so from here on, it’s all out spoiler territory.

During the final mission in Far Cry 5, you are tasked with bringing down The Father himself at his compound. Before that however, you are given two choices: Walk Away or Resist.

The Walk Away ending shows you leaving the compound, but as you’re driving away Whitehorse turns on the radio, Only You starts playing (the song Jacob used to induce your psychosis), and the game screen fades to black.

The Resist ending, however, is where things are dialed up to eleven! You fight with The Father, arrest him, and just when everything seems to be going your way and your fight against Edens Gate cult is over, alarms start blaring in the background and a nuke detonates in Hope County. You are then tasked with driving back to Dutch’s bunker, but The Father kills Dutch and you are trapped alone with him in the bunker until…(this is how the game ends, on a cliffhanger)

The ending is a downer for sure and one of the only times where the bad guy wins no matter what you do, but what does it have to do with the survey? Well, one of the options listed on the survey I mentioned before was a Far Cry game set in a Mad Max style post-apocalyptic world.

Being the only Far Cry game to end on a cliffhanger, it’s very likely that the next title in the series might follow up on the Resist ending and being that the world has actually seen an apocalypse presumably, the Mad Max-esque Far Cry sounds very likely at this point.

In the end, it’s probably still a bit early to discuss the potential setting for Far Cry 6 in earnest considering Far Cry 5 came out barely two weeks ago, but it’s a fun thing to regardless.

What do you think ? Will the next Far Cry game go back to the exotic landscapes or will it truly be a post apocalyptic adventure? Please don’t hesitate to leave a comment with your thoughts on this topic.
