EA’s Third Quarter of Fiscal Year 2019 Financial Results Released

EA has shared their financial results for the their third quarter of fiscal year 2019. While it wasn’t a terrible quarter, it was lower than expected, primarily due to the blunted launch of Battlefield V. Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA, mentioned that the quarter “did not perform to our expectations.”

He also stated that “We are now applying the strengths of our company to sharpen our execution and focus on delivering great new games and long-term live services for our players. We’re very excited about Apex Legends, the upcoming launch of Anthem, and a deep line-up of new experiences that we’ll bring to our global communities next fiscal year.”

In addition to a press release,a conference call was hosted, going over EA’s third quarter of fiscal year 2019 financial results.

Here’s some major highlights for EA’s third quarter of fiscal year 2019:
  • Net revenue was $1.21 billion USD, net income was $262 million USD
  • FIFA 19 was the top game for all of calendar 2018 in Europe
  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is scheduled to launch this holiday
  • New Plants vs Zombies and Need for Speed games are on the way
  • 47% of full game sales in 2018 on PlayStation 4/Xbox One were digital
  • Battlefield V did not meet sales expectations
  • Anthem is expected to sell around 5 to 6 million copies before fiscal year 2019 ends (or by March 31st, 2019)

With these numbers in mind, there’s definitely several questions in the road ahead for EA. Support for Apex Legends and getting the launch of Anthem right will be key factors for the final quarter of EA’s fiscal year.
