Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson set to star in Rampage movie

The Rock otherwise known as Dwayne Johnson(Furious 7, Ballers), is set to star in a live-action version of the 1986 arcade game, Rampage. The game was developed by Bally Midway and was available on the NES, Sega Master System, arcade and a few other platforms.

According to Deadline, the film is set to go into production in summer 2016, and no plot details have been released yet. It is safe to assume that the movie will follow the premise of the 80’s video game, which sees three giant monsters wreak havoc on various American cities. In the game, up to three players could simultaneously take control of these three kaiju. The goal of the game was to raze and destroy each city to advance to the next stage.

Johnson will team up with New Line Cinema and producer Beau Flynn(Red Dawn, San Andreas) who he combined with on summer blockbuster, San Andreas. The disaster movie has been successful since it’s worldwide release, and has taken $415 million at the box office till date. Ryan Engle(Non-Stop, East of West) has signed on to pen the script and as of yet, there has been no mention of a director for the upcoming flick.
